Dan Leaning
Mixer & Mastering Engineer

As a client, you’ll get more than just a mix. You’ll get a collaborative partner who’s genuinely invested in your sound. I’ll give your music the attention it deserves, provide clear and open communication throughout the process, and work with you to get everything exactly where it needs to be.
I’m Dan, a mix engineer who’s here to help bring your music to life - whether you’re polishing a single, building an EP, or pushing for sync placements. My background isn’t just rooted in mixing and mastering - I’ve also worked across film scores, ADR, voiceover recording, audio post-production, and live events. Having studied at BIMM Manchester from 2020 to 2023, I was fortunate to win the university’s 2022 Remix Competition. That led to a one-on-one masterclass with Rick Snoman (credits: Britney Spears, The Chainsmokers, The Stone Roses, Justin Timberlake), where I deepened my understanding of what makes a mix click with an audience.
Each project is different and has a unique narrative - so I always endeavour to bring a musician’s perspective. Having been a drummer for over thirteen years, coupled with an additional six years of playing guitar and bass - I lean into the mix process not just technically, but emotionally. Developing an understanding of how each track moves, how it makes us move, how certain parts interact, and how we can use dynamics to create emotion is key. This experience helps me mix with feel as well as precision, knowing when to focus and when to let things breathe. In 2022, I also released two ambient albums, which deepened my appreciation for texture, space, and subtlety in a mix. Whether you’re chasing energy, atmosphere, or something in between, I know how to shape a mix that supports and elevates your performance.
I mix and master from an acoustically treated home studio, and also work as a freelance recording engineer at Oscillate Recordings in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. There, I’ve mixed tracks that have achieved radio airplay on BBC Introducing, Radio 4 and Amazing Radio, as well as ADR recording for brands such as the NFL, BBC Radio 4, Northern Rail and Modux - but what matters most is getting your music up-to-scratch - the way you want it to sound.
Whether I’m working remotely on mixes, mastering an album or recording in the studio, I use trusted gear - including Adam monitoring, UA/SSL hardware, an Akai GXC-46D tape machine, industry-standard plug-ins (UAD, Fab Filter, iZotope, SSL, Waves, Soundtoys etc...), and a Neumann U87 AI (located at Oscillate).
If you’re looking for someone who listens closely to both your tracks and your vision, I’m here to help shape a final product that’s polished, professional, and truly yours. Let’s make something that sounds like you.
